The next BOC meeting is Monday, September 8, at 6:00PM. Or so says the agenda unless you look at the little type underneath the announcement—then it says there will also be a work session at 5:15PM. This group of commissioners is the best at sneaky things at that.
The agenda says the BOC is going to hear about the “free” Comcast (Selective Solutions) service agreement again—which happens to be under new business, even though it has already been discussed. See our last blog.
They are also going to appoint members to the Alcovy Shores Water & Sewerage Authority Board—even though neither the BOC nor the staff ever notified ASWA of being on the agenda. Just more sneaky, underhanded stuff to harass ASWA. Every other board that has members appointed is notified, they turn in a list of who they want on the board, and the BOC says ok and votes 5-0. This has happened just recently with JCWSA and DJAC (Dev.Authority). But ASWA isn’t even aware they are on the agenda, so let’s see how fairly this is done.
But best of all the BOC is going to take time to have a presentation on Facebook and then discuss Jasper County Facebook Page Creation under new business. We have to wonder if the BOC is more concerned about Facebook than Planning and Zoning/Code Enforcement—which is never on the agenda, or the crummy website for Jasper County that has to be one of the worst county websites around. This county website is maintained by Selective Solutions—the company that is involved in the “Comcast agreement.”
At a recent “Forward Jasper” meeting, Karen Degges, County Manager, told people attending that many counties have PR people on staff that do Facebook. (Kinda like the counties that have these spec buildings she discussed one time.) Hopefully, the BOC isn’t considering hiring someone to do a Facebook page or paying someone to maintain it. If they are, maybe this is another reason we had to have a 2 mil tax increase—to pay for waste like this and to give JCWSA money.
Karen Degges comes up with new ways to spend money at every meeting. If the BOC is considering a Facebook page, maybe this could be part of the County Manager’s job. She frequents Facebook during business hours and responds to posts on the Taxdogs Facebook page. (Yesterday she had 2 separate posts (comments) on our Facebook page during office hours starting at 11:11AM.) Since she just hired a Finance Director to do half her job duties, she should have plenty of time to maintain a Facebook page for the county. She seems to be browsing it anyway while being paid her $85,000 a year salary.
Don’t the commissioners have other more important things to worry about and take care of in our county than a Facebook page?
Note: Comm. Trammell, Comm. Henry, Comm. Pennamon, Comm. Salmon, and Karen Degges all have Facebook pages. We bet they all figured out how to set these up all by themselves without taxpayer funded assistance.
Citizens, be informed and stay informed! Only by being informed can the citizens understand what is being done and talked about, and then press our officials to make good decisions for everyone in Jasper County. That is our goal with the Taxdogs blog.
