Citizens all over are fighting to keep their property taxes from going up again this year. However, elected officials don’t seem to care about that after they are elected. They all have big plans, bigger budgets, and want more stuff. Here’s how Jasper County compares to counties around us and its ranking in the State—
Keeping the millage rate the same as last year, increases property taxes by about $300,000 for the county and another $300,000 for the school system. We all know there is plenty of waste that can be cut.
You still have an opportunity to call your Commissioner—all commissioners—and ask them to cut the budget and lower the millage rate. Or come to one or both of the public hearings on the budget Monday, June 15 at 9:00am and/or 6:00pm.
Thank you to contacts in Newton County for providing this information and chart.
Citizens, be informed and stay informed! Only by being informed can the citizens understand what is being done and talked about, and then press our officials to make good decisions for everyone in Jasper County. That is our goal with the Taxdogs blog.
