Tax dog is correct Neglected Taxpayer. I agree with what you said simply because I feel the same way. BUT with that said, if we all make the same effort at every single meeting it would eventually work. If they had to be inconvenienced every single meeting to have to take it upstairs. If every time, everyone got up and spoke their mind for 3 mins. I have to believe that we could start making a difference. When Mary asked the question and Alexander was so arrogant, we all stood up and demanded an answer. That sent a message big time. We all need to be that demanding at every meeting. We the taxpayers can be a powerful source if we all do it together on a consistent basis.

    • Neglected Taxpayer says:

You are right. IF people showed up at every meeting the commissioners might feel the heat and pay attention to the citizens.

A lot of people are busy with their own lives, family and financial issues, that they do not take or find the time to hold our elected officials accountable. We need to demand accountability from all our elected officials at every level of government.

      There is strength in numbers.

  2. Neglected Taxpayer says:

So many people showed up for the last BOC meeting that they reluctantly moved the meeting upstairs to one of the courtrooms.

Lots of people showed up and people commented. It did not matter one bit to the commissioners. Their minds were made up prior to the meeting. The budget was not going to get changed, even though some said they “sort of” felt bad about increasing our taxes.

No wonder people are staying away from BOC meetings. It’s a waste of time. They don’t care about the public. Spending continues and taxes will continue to go up. The only way I know how to change this is via the ballot box.

    • taxdogs says:

It may seem like a waste of time, but the best thing we can do is keep attending the meetings, calling them and emailing them. Doug Luke admitted it was calls and emails that changed his mind. Doug and the others need to start listening to their constituents instead of Gene Trammell and Jim Alexander.
