Newton County commissioners cut ties with County Attorney Tommy Craig

#COVINGTON — Newton County commissioners voted 4-1 Tuesday night to sever ties with long-time County Attorney Tommy Craig, prompting enthusiastic applause and cheers from the packed meeting room at the Newton County Historic Courthouse.

Thank goodness for news investigators like Catie Beck of Channel 11-WXIA-TV. People of Newton County have complained about Tommy Craig, his exorbitant salary, and money wasted on Bear Creek Reservoir for years. Beck’s reporting of Craig’s huge debt to the IRS and his million dollar plus fees paid by Newton County in addition to the Newton County citizens’ pressure, led to Craig’s termination.

    The next order of business should be the Commissioners of Newton, Walton, Morgan and Jasper counties demanding Tommy Craig be released from any contract obligation for legals services with the Four County Joint Development Authority and then an order issued ASAP for a full audit of all financial activities concluded by JDA since the beginning.The crony control of taxpayers monies used in private land development scams have gone on long enough.
