JUNKYARD HAS YET TO GET REQUIRED SPECIAL USE PERMIT—HEARING SET FOR THURSDAY, 12/3/15 AT 7:00PM

November 30, 2015

Nancy Carlton, owner of the property at 33 Edwards Road, has finally applied for a Special Use permit on 4.4 acres at the corner of Hwy 83 S and Edwards Rd. to allow a Junkyard.

This junkyard has been in operation for months without a permit, without a business license, and without the State required screening. Even though P&Z and the BOC has known about this for months, nothing has been done as more and more junk cars have been brought in and put on the 4.4 acre parcel.

The hearing for the Special Use permit will be held by the P&Z Board in the BOC meeting room on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 7:00PM.

This meeting is important because the BOC usually takes the recommendation of the P&Z Board. The P&Z Board needs to hear from you about having a junk yard in Jasper County.

The BOC had said the reason for agreeing to back $1,800,000 of bonds at the old Lake Lumber property (across the street from this Junkyard) was to clean up the property. “It was such an eyesore when people came into Jasper County on Hwy 83,” according to Comm. Doug Luke.

This is a meeting you need to make plans to attend.

Citizens, be informed and stay informed! Only by being informed can the citizens understand what is being done and talked about, and then press our officials to make good decisions for everyone in Jasper County. That is our goal with the Taxdogs blog.

  1. Mr Seabourn says:

Was this not a scrap yard before?

What’s the difference in a pile of scrap appliances, a pile of trash, a pile of cars?
This property is zoned the highest zoning jasper county offers.

The owner of the “junkyard” has a business license, if you did the proper research you will see that he has a license for “towing and storage of automobiles”

What’s the difference in this pile of car, the pile of cars at southern pro towing, the pile of cars in the field beside ozburbs trailer park, or the other countless acres of scrap metal and cars at the other end of Edwards Rd?

At least the man is earning a living and helping the people in the community by purchasing their scrap vehicles. Live and let live.

  2. Ain't Salvage Junk? says:

“The BOC had said the reason for agreeing to back $1,800,000 of bonds at the old Lake Lumber property (across the street from this Junkyard) was to clean up the property.”

FWIW, prior to David Dyer and his boot-lick boys on the BoC deciding to taxpayer fund a crony’s sawmill on Lake Lumber property, the property had already been approved by P&Z and the BoC for a salvage yard business, which just proves once again that the BoC is not above lying to further the agenda of those who make their living milking the taxpayers’ cow.

as we all know nothing is going to happen to do things correctly in Jasper County unless this junk yard is either in their backyard or in their neighborhood. It’s a fact that this greatest board ever does not give a hoot about the county or the people who live here all they care about is their power and the fact they can call themselves a Commissioner. The BOC should take the time to hear what the public calls them.
