AUDITOR CHARGES $26,000 TO DO P&Z AUDIT

January 17, 2016

Last year Sherry Braley was arrested by the GBI for “misappropriating” county funds.  The Grand Jury has yet to hear the case.

At the 1/11/16 BOC meeting, the BOC was informed that the forensic audit for P&Z cost $26,000 and this might need to come out of contingency.

Mike Benton told the BOC “we had a problem and didn’t know it.”  Now we all know that is not true.  See a partial list of TWG blogs below telling everyone, including the BOC, that there were problems in P&Z and in particular with Sherry Braley.

Mr. Benton also told the BOC that P&Z income had doubled from the 1st 6 months of FY15 to the 1st 6 months of FY16 (July 1, 2015-December 31, 2015).  He said, “this is proof in the pudding of what went on.”

There were plenty of things the County Manager (Karen Degges) and BOC knew because at least one employee told them so and wrote certified letters to the county attorney, only to be ignored and then fired!

Let’s hope in the future the BOC will be more willing to investigate and DO something, rather than act ignorant and cost us so much money.

TWG

Citizens, be informed and stay informed!  Only by being informed can the citizens understand what is being done and talked about, and then press our officials to make good decisions for everyone in Jasper County.  That is our goal with the Taxdogs blog.

  1. Will history repeat itself? says:

I wish our commissioners would take public input seriously. How often have people commented on items on the agenda at the beginning of a commission meeting and the commissioners ignored the citizens input? It always feels like their decision is a fait accompli. No discussion necessary.

There are several issues that TWG highlighted many times, but was totally ignored or ridiculed. When it finally hit the fan, we were told that nobody could have seen this coming.

Elections are coming soon. Will some of the commissioners take their head out of the sand long enough to be re-elected?

BTW – Whatever happened to the “professional looking team” shirts for the commissioners that the public paid for?

  2. FedUP says:

As time goes by the incredible incompetence of this board is off the chart. Karen Degges was given carte blanche by the board, without any oversight whatsoever of board members. The “garbage to energy” scheme Degges promoted and the “plate dirt” fiasco should have set off alarms and bells to the commissioners that Degges was not the sharpest pencil in the box. What it did plainly exhibit was that unfortunately our commissioners were not the sharpest pencils in the box. Every one of these commissioners have violated their oath of office by not using due diligence to work on the taxpayers behalf to insure our tax dollars are thrown down a bottomless pit. This P&Z fiasco is just one act of the multi ring circus going on.

Oh, and one final note. Pardon my French, but if I see that damned green sign in the background proclaiming “Jasper county the deer capital of Georgia” one more time I swear I am going to hurl. Thanks to Ms. Degges and my commissioner Mr. Luke and others, our tax dollars paid for this fiasco, which was to be a windfall to the county and deer hunters would be fighting for the chance to purchase one. To my knowledge, sales have been close to zero, and I seem to recall Mr. Salmon telling constituents at a BOC meeting he would purchase signs not sold.
