Tonight there is a new agenda for a special called meeting on the county website for Friday night at 6:00PM. The only item on the agenda includes “Tax Pledge – Four County Development Loan.” This tax pledge is for approximately $1,350,000, payable in $135,000 annual payments. JDA will also borrow up to another $600,000 with the Bank of Madison on a Line of Credit from 2016 to 2019.
At the last BOC meeting the commissioners and their attorney, David Ozburn, went into an illegal 45 minute executive session to discuss a resolution and tax pledge. Will we get to know any details at all before the vote Friday night, or will it be one more time the public is deceived? Is there going to be any public discussion this time, Commissioners?
An open letter to the Jasper County BOC:
Just saw your special called meeting for Friday night at 6:00PM. No citizen comments? Citizens should be able to comment about a tax pledge of all things.
Also, we will get to find out how much the interest rate is and what the payment schedule is? Are you going to allow the resolution to go forward without specifying that Jasper County is only liable for 10% of the $136,000 per year payment?
Your discussion of this tax pledge in executive session at the last meeting was illegal, as discussion of a resolution and note payment are not part of the exemptions under open meetings.
We’ve had enough secrecy with JDA. Why not let all of us that end up paying for these bad decisions at least know ahead of time what all we are getting stuck with?
Citizens, be informed and stay informed! Only by being informed can the citizens understand what is being done and talked about, and then press our officials to make good decisions for everyone in Jasper County. That is our goal with the Taxdogs blog.
