In June 2015, the GBI issued a warrant for and arrested former Planning & Zoning and Animal Control Director, Sherry Braley, on charges of theft by deception, a felony. See information here.
This past week the Grand Jury met and indicted several people; however, Sherry Braley’s name wasn’t on the list of those indicted. See who was indicted here.
Since she was arrested 8 months ago, many people have been anxious to see what the Grand Jury would do; however, the Grand Jury was not presented the case. A call to the Asst. District Attorney, Brent Cochran, revealed some answers. He said that he did not receive all the necessary paperwork from the GBI yet. He also said that “these things take time with audits and lots of paperwork to go through.”
Jasper County’s 2014 audit (fiscal year ending 6/30/14) wasn’t completed until July 2015. It was in this audit that the missing funds were laid out by the auditor. Jasper County’s 2015 audit (fiscal year ending 6/30/15) is not finished yet, and there could possibly be more missing funds discovered. Hopefully, we will know sometime soon since our commissioners will start budget hearings for FY17 in the next couple of months.
Both Melissa Strozier (theft by conversion, theft by taking (three counts)) and Michelle Raynor (theft by taking) were indicted by the Grand Jury this past week.
Citizens, be informed and stay informed! Only by being informed can the citizens understand what is being done and talked about, and then press our officials to make good decisions for everyone in Jasper County. That is our goal with the Taxdogs blog.
