This BOC is all about spending money and has had plenty of bidding irregularities. The fire truck bid fiasco, Trammell pressuring other BOC members to vote without a bid on a consultant he wanted, purchase of an ambulance without bids ($130,000+), etc.
On the agenda tomorrow night the BOC has placed the item “Jasper County‘s Purchasing Policy Update.” It is an UPdate all right—raising the limit to $25,000 before any bids are required.
Oh, but the BOC will get “3 quotes” from vendors up to the $25,000 limit. What could go wrong?
If you know a department head or commissioner and they like you, no doubt you will be one of the lucky 3 vendors asked to give a quote. Otherwise, your business will probably never know if the county is looking for something you sell or service you can provide.
That is why BIDS are important. They give every vendor the same opportunity to provide their product or service.
This BOC is lazy. They have shirked their duty in signing checks or even knowing what invoices are submitted. This new “bid policy” is another opportunity for more waste of our tax dollars.
The only way you can have a say in this is call your or email your Commissioner or all commissioners tonight and tomorrow before the meeting at 6:00PM. You can find their email and telephone number at this link-– http://jaspercountyga.org/
Citizens, be informed and stay informed! Only by being informed can the citizens understand what is being done and talked about, and then press our officials to make good decisions for everyone in Jasper County. That is our goal with the Taxdogs blog.
