After spending about $10,000 EACH on our 4 “new” commissioners to become certified, we have to wonder what they learned at the classes they took. We couldn’t find “How to Sneak and Hide from the Public” as being one of those classes, but over the past couple of weeks the Jasper County BOC would be at the top of that class. When they were called out about the violations, Comm. Trammell got angry!
First, Craig Salmon stood outside the County Manager’s door and joined the discussion with Comm. Pennamon and Comm. Trammell about county business on 3/24/16. This meeting also included a quorum of the BOC discussing more business before the meeting and again after the meeting was adjourned. Read more…
Second, on 3/31/16 the Jasper County BOC had a work session with no agenda, and the meeting was never called to order. Comm. Trammell joked about this as if to say, “I’ll do as I want despite the law!” During this meeting they set an agenda for a retreat in Athens so they could further hide from the citizens. Read more…
Third, at the 4/4/16 meeting the BOC was called out for having an illegal meeting during citizen comments. Watch this video:
Lastly, Gene Trammell waited until the meeting was adjourned and tried to make excuses for violating the open meetings laws. He said they were “doing the best they could do.” Trammell also made comments about “they could have been playing poker” and other some other dumb excuses. Watch this video:
A commenter on the TWG blog said if all this is illegal why wasn’t there a lawsuit. If anyone would like to contribute to TWG, we will be happy to file a lawsuit against this BOC for these illegal acts. It seems that blogs and citizen comments won’t deter this BOC. They seem to have no shame and like to flaunt the fact they will do what they want, when they want, despite the law.
Contributions can be sent to TWG, PO Box 102, Monticello, GA 31064. Also, remember to vote in the upcoming elections. New faces can change a lot of things!
Citizens, be informed and stay informed! Only by being informed can the citizens understand what is being done and talked about, and then press our officials to make good decisions for everyone in Jasper County. That is our goal with the Taxdogs blog.
