By design, it is very hard to know what our county officials are doing in Jasper County. The commissioner’s attorney sends an invoice to the county randomly. Upon inspection of the last two invoices from Alexander & Royston (received in December 2015 and April 2016), it appears that Karen Degges, former County Manager has some sort of legal action against Jasper County. There has been correspondence with her attorney since July 2015.
Ms. Degges is also drawing unemployment each week that the county reimburses to the Georgia Dep’t of Labor each quarter. The following invoice was paid by the county in April 2016.
This statement shows that Karen Degges will be drawing unemployment until August 2016, unless she obtains employment before then. The maximum time anyone can draw unemployment, according to the GDOL website, is 26 weeks.
If the BOC had kept records of tardiness, not following policies, not overseeing department heads, etc. and putting proper documentation and reprimands in Ms. Degges’ personnel file, the county taxpayers most likely would not be paying unemployment or litigation costs.
