THE $9,967,090 BUDGET IS JUST “NICKLES AND DIMES” TO CHAIRMAN GENE TRAMMELL

June 9, 2016

Folks, you can’t make this stuff up!!  During the recent budget process, Gene Trammell said they (the BOC) were worrying over “nickels and dimes.”  Watch his comments here:

Trammell not only seems to think the budget is “chump change” but he also doesn’t want to do the heavy lifting and actually look over the line items of each department.  He wants the County Manager to do that job.  Why not?  Then there is always someone else to blame when it doesn’t work out or when a department complains of any cuts.

Isn’t that how this board has operated ever since they took office?  Constantly raising taxes and constantly blaming the last BOC, the last County Manager, or someone else for any problem that arises.

The one true job the Board of Commissioners is to set the annual budget.  This Board can not even do that.  It seems to be too hard for them to understand it, or in Trammell’s case, it takes too much time.  He is always in a hurry to get out of the meeting, but yet has plenty of time to spend at the courthouse every day working out of the public eye and behind closed doors.

Here is a visual look at the “proposed” FY17 budget:

Citizens, be informed and stay informed!  Only by being informed can the citizens understand what is being done and talked about, and then press our officials to make good decisions for everyone in Jasper County.  That is our goal with the Taxdogs blog.

Dear Scrap Recovery, Jasper County had someone but was offered no support. Former Commissioner Mary Patrick squealed and squirmed over every penny spent and your taxes went down. Where was her support? Where were the registered voters on election day?

  2. Dennis says:

I’m sure we could save at least $107,513 that is ear marked for “Economic Development” .. There has been no economic development in this county since I first came here in 1985. I know about the companies they have dealt with and moved into GA. Which of them is located in Jasper Co ?
AND why is my money going toward developing some other county ?
Giving away millions of dollars to multi-billion dollar companies so they will move a facility here and hire 22 people, not necessarily from our county, is NOT in our best interest. We’d be better
off keeping the millions and let these corporations go where they will.
Another slice of the pie chart I have to question is the $238,181 for “Other Appropriations”.. Just
    what are these appropriations ?
$1,626,806 for “General Government” ? I’d like to see specifics on this, too. Right now I don’t think we need that much “general government” in a county as small as Jasper.
We, the taxpayers, need to start thinking of how to have a good county to live in at very little expense to us individually. As it stands, we are wasting a great deal of money on trying to be
    big time, like Fulton County.
We need people on the BOC who treat these line items as though they must pay for them out
    of their own pocket.

  3. To Judge Is To Love says:

Does it strike anybody else as alarming that nearly a third of our budget goes to law enforcement? Has crime become so rampant that we have to pay out such a huge chunk of our overall budget just to keep a semblance of law and order in Jasper County?

If the answer to the latter question is yes, then we the citizens of Jasper County need to come to terms with how and why our county became so infested with a criminal element and what to do about it.

Could it be we have lowered our standards of common decency and right versus wrong to a point were we’ve allowed a degenerate culture covered beneath a blanket of tolerance to run amok amongst our families, and in our churches and schools?

Folks, more money, more patrol cars, more law enforcement officers and bigger jails will not cure what ails our increasingly debauched society. That begins at home with two loving parents and a steady diet of duty, self-respect and moral fortitude.

We get what we allow which judging from the shear volume of pornographic obscenities blasting from car speakers and the horde of haphazardly dressed, tattoo scarred, feral morons spewing steady streams of vulgarities assaulting civil society daily, it is no great mental feat to deduce that in the next few years our law enforcement budget will be the biggest expense Jasper County taxpayers are forced to bear. And, bear it we will if we desire even a small degree of law protection, and at the expense of everything else that makes a community worth living in.

Tolerance is not a virtue when is destroys communities and raids county resources.

  4. Scrap Recovery says:

Why Don’t some run again him an get him voted out! his area keeps voting him in every time!

  5. Steve says:

What a joke. Someone needs to check DCA’s website and find out why we have an unreported ISO rating too. https://www.dca.ga.gov/development/research/programs/documents/2014ISOrating.pdf
