During the discussion about the landfill office replacement and repair on June 6, Comm. Salmon brought up his new idea. He wants to have the landfill traffic re-routed around the Recreation department. See his comments about having the road re-located in the video below.
The entrance to the landfill and the entrance to the Rec department are one in the same, Ted Sauls Rd. The landfill is only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday each week and closes sometime around 5PM.
Comm. Pennamon added some common sense to the conversation and brought up the cost of a different road or using the old dirt road going behind Public Works. He said it would cost some big bucks to change the road and make it so a normal truck could get through, much less a citizen in a car. Comm. Salmon persisted and said they should get quotes.
Comm. Trammell said when they developed the lower fields [at the Rec Dep’t] they might be able to do something different.
Ted Sauls Rd. is probably one of the better roads in Jasper County because it was built to withstand big and heavy trucks. Public Works can hardly maintain the roads they have now, much less worry about fixing a back road for heavy truck traffic and public access to the landfill. This BOC should concentrate on the roads they have now that are filled with potholes, are falling apart, and are traveled daily by the citizens of Jasper County.
