(JDA=4 County Development Authority=Stanton Springs)
After cancelling their regularly called June 28th meeting about 10 days ago, the JDA has all of a sudden decided they need a “special called meeting” on the same day, June 28th at 7:30pm. The only thing on the agenda is Executive Session—Land Acquisition.
Is Kippy Clarke back with another deal? Will the taxpayers suffer a multi-million dollar loss on a new land deal?
Or, on the other hand, is the JDA going to buy land? If so, with what? More loans? They have no money as the taxpayers just took over, and have to make payments on, the JDA’s $1.3M debt with the Bank of Madison.
The above agenda was sent out by the JDA barely 24 hours before the scheduled meeting. This 24-hour notification is an excellent way to keep people from knowing about the meetings or being able to attend them. Open meetings laws say the agenda should be posted as far in advance as possible (up to 2 weeks) unless it is an emergency; then notice can be given with a 24-hour notice. It is hard to imagine an emergency meeting for land acquisition.
Citizens, be informed and stay informed! Only by being informed, can the citizens understand what is being done and talked about, and then press our officials to make good decisions for everyone in Jasper County. That is our goal with the Taxdogs blog.
