CRAIG SALMON STILL TRYING TO UN-DO THE ONE THING IN JASPER COUNTY THAT IS WORKING

5/1/15 Wreck at Hwy 212 W & Bethel Church Rd.

If nothing else, Craig Salmon is consistent when it comes to trying to screw up one thing that is actually working well in Jasper County.  He has been trying to have the rumble strips uninstalled at the new 4 way stop at Bethel Church Rd. and Hwy 212 W since they were installed in August 2015.

These strips were installed August 5, 2015, and since that time there has not been an accident at the intersection.  Before the 4-way stop and the rumble strips were installed, there was an endless stream of wrecks over a 2-3 year period.

On the BOC agenda Monday night the item Bethel Church Road Rumble Strips” is under old business.  Several months ago the BOC voted that the strips installed by DOT  have been working well and need to be left alone.  Did that stop Salmon from continuing to pursue this?  No!

We have to wonder if he has any concern at all for the many families that were affected by the wrecks at this intersection, including one young man’s death.  Any changes at this intersection that result in more accidents will rest at the feet of the Jasper County BOC and in particular, Craig Salmon.

Citizens, be informed and stay informed!  Only by being informed, can the citizens understand what is being done and talked about, and then press our officials to make good decisions for everyone in Jasper County.  That is our goal with the Taxdogs blog.

  1. Drivetime says:

Rumble strips need to make noise, not vibrate bolts and welds loose in vehicles. The reason people stop is the stop sign on 212, The people that drive on Bethel Church road are the ones that cause the problem, they never stop, they just slow down and keep going as they did before the four way stop. I’ve never seen another 4 way stop with rumble strips as high as 212/Bethel Church.

We don’t know of any other intersection that had as many wrecks over a two-year period as Bethel Church and Highway 212. The commissioners had all types of alternatives, and did nothing, so the DOT fixed it for us. No more wrecks since then.

  2. Another waste of time and money says:

Such a waste of time and energy. If Salmon would spend his time working on something that was broken like the joke called public works, he might make the name for himself he so obviously craves. Why discuss this again and try to pressure the DOT to spend (WASTE) money on something that has was fixed and is working well?

  3. Michael says:

They were pretty rough, when first installed, but not so much anymore. And will continue to wear down more, over time.

    • taxdogs says:

They obviously had to be rough to wake people up that were coming through that intersection. There were 2 to 3 wrecks a month at that intersection until those rumble strips at the four way stop were installed.

  4. Sterling FLoore says:

I’m with Craig. Those rumble strips are too large and cause a terrible vibration to the vehicle. They need to be replaced with the type like at the round about on 36/212. They make a warning noise but do not over vibrate the vehicle. I was always in favor of a round about at this location. It would slow the traffic down but keep the flow going.

    • taxdogs says:

Except for all the big cattle trailers that go through there. You can’t go through a roundabout without turning over. When you have a big trailer full of cows

    • Take The Time To Notice says:

Awww…Give the little fellow a break.Whether its trying to sabotage the administration of Alcovy Shores Water Authority; scheming to create a regional landfill against the wishes of concerned citizens; publicly wishing taxpayer advocates dead or secretly working to dump more of JCWSA’s toxic debt on the taxpayers of Jasper County, all Fishy really wants is to be noticed. Remember when he was going to pay for all the Jasper County Deer Capital signs from his own pocket. Baahhh…that was a good one. Made me laugh.
What Fishy deserves is a big neon sign placed behind his committee chair which will display the words Look At Me in big flashing red letters, then maybe Fishy will have all the public attention he so desperately craves.

    • WUT says:

Roundabouts are about the stupidest idea to ever come out of GDOT. There could not be a means of deliberately snarling traffic ever designed, even if a committee of loony Atlanta liberals had worked on it…did they?

    • James Kelly says:

The problem with roundabouts is that many people apparently don’t know what the yield signs are for since I have witnessed MANY idiots blowing through without slowing down for other traffic.
The noise and vibrations caused by the rumble strip are necessary to alert drivers to the fact that there is danger ahead. With so many people driving and texting perhaps the noise and vibrations will cause them to take their eyes off their cell phones and look at the road ahead.
