ALLEN SMITH CONSULTING –GRANT WRITERS GET WORK WITHOUT BIDS

March 13, 2017

Last Monday night (3/6/17), the BOC voted to hire Allen Smith Consulting (again) to manage the grant applied for to renovate the Senior Citizens Center, without considering getting bids for the services.  Even though this was previously done—August 3, 2015—it was not in the official minutes for some reason.

Watch this video that was made August 3, 2015, where this was discussed for 5 minutes and Comm. Trammell refused to go out for bids because he had used this company before.  Comm. Pennamon and Comm. Trammell had met with the reps of this company earlier and they pushed this through.

You can read the original post concerning this here:

THE BIDDING PROCESS ONLY MATTERS IF IT DOESN’T INVOLVE SOMEONE GENE TRAMMELL WANTS

You would think the BOC would figure out that they had already approve this since there have been $3582.62 of checks written to Allen Smith Consulting since September 2015.

Good memories and excellent, informative meeting minutes would go a along way in Jasper County.  Competitive bids would also ensure the public is getting the job done for the best price.

Citizens, be informed and stay informed!  Only by being informed, can the citizens understand what is being done and talked about, and then press our officials to make good decisions for everyone in Jasper County.  That is our goal with the Taxdogs blog.

  1. Pulling The Strings says:

Real sharp group of Commissioners we’ve got here. What do they call themselves…oh ,yeah …strategic planners. Can’t remember what they did last week, but they’ve got the future of Jasper County all mapped out. They just need to keep raising taxes in order to make Jasper County fit their strategic plan, which is really all about selling risky bonds backed by taxpayer debt . Memories ain’t really all that important when agenda driven special interests are telling the marionettes what to think anyway. Debt is progress. And progress is smart growth or so we are told.

  2. Wait a minute says:

I thought it was decided that remodeling and enlarging the senior center would suffice. Will the county still be able to use the grant for remodeling, when the request was for a new building?

  3. Please pay attention says:

The county clerk forgets to include a motion in the minutes and not one of the 5 commissioners catches the omission. The discussion on the subject is actually one of the longer discussions these commissioners had. How much time do the commissioners spend reading the minutes before approving them?

Was a conceptual drawing ever produced? We know that the grant, if won, can only be used for the Senior Center, not the Sheriff.

The Monticello News reported, “Commissioners approved Allen Smith Consulting as the grant administrator for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for which the county is applying for a senior center addition and renovation. If the grant is not received, the company gets nothing.”

The paper’s information is clearly not accurate, as the taxpayers have already spent nearly half of the “SMALL” fee of $8,000.

It again raises the question whether commissioners actually know what checks they are approving and for what products/services these checks are written.
