GDOT PUTS MONTICELLO BYPASS ON SHELF UNTIL 2028

October 5, 2017

Comm. Pennamon gave a shocking report at the Development Authority meeting Tuesday afternoon.  He told all in attendance that GDOT had put the Monticello Bypass (Hwy 380) on the shelf until 2028.

He added that GDOT still plans to buy all the right of ways and to finish the engineering, but then the project will go on the shelf.  Comm. Pennamon added that they (GDOT) have been here and seen all traffic on the square.

If you remember, in February the GDOT threatened to withdraw funding if the BOC did not approve –right then—round-a-bouts for the proposed bypass where it would intersect Hwy 16 and Hwy 83.  This was approved as well as agreeing to maintain the areas around the round-a-bouts, even though they would be on a state highway.

GDOT THREATENS BOC – MAINTAIN ROUND-A-BOUTS OR HAVE 380 MONEY WITHDRAWN

Comm. Pennamon was at a loss as to what happened to the project between February and this Tuesday.

Citizens, be informed and stay informed!  Only by being informed, can the citizens understand what is being done and talked about, and then press our officials to make good decisions for everyone in Jasper County.  That is our goal with the Taxdogs blog.

  1. Alan Cox says:

I remember in 2010 when the new pavement on County Line Road was falling apart, to get anything done by GDOT, I had to physically go to GDOT and “lobby sit” until the Transportation Commissioner would personally meet with me. Then there was another round of daily phone calls to the Commissioner and the Deputy Commissioner until I wore them down and the Deputy Commissioner actually met me on County Line Road twice. It got repaired and repaved. The ole saying “the squeaky wheel gets the grease” is very true. I wonder how many of the commissioners have been to GDOT or even tried to call, which by the way doesn’t work? The truth in this matter is that Monticello and Jasper County have been tabled for 11 years and our commissioners can not even tell us why. Monticello and Jasper County only matter to the State when it comes to having a tier 3 county involved with Stanton Springs so that huge businesses can get Federal job credits for hiring us poor hicks to sweep the floors and cut the grass.

  2. Hurry up and wait says:

It does make you wonder why they were in such a hurry to get an answer from the county and now they are delaying the project by 11 years. Hmm.
