“Under the incentives proposal, lawmakers would create a program to offer state income tax deductions of up to $50,000 annually for 10 years to new residents of rural counties. That yearly deduction would double to $100,000 in counties that also give property tax abatements to new residents.”

What about those of us that are living in and have lived in Rural Georgia for years? Are we just out of luck for any tax breaks?? And why would these poor, rural counties give away property taxes? Isn’t this the reason they want MORE people to move in–for an increased tax base?????  Who would make up that loss of revenue? Oh, yeah, the people that already live here and are paying way too much in property taxes already!

If the State has so much extra money, why don’t they give ALL the citizens of Georgia a tax break by decreasing the state taxes, the fuel taxes, the sales taxes, the permit fees, etc.??  The State always has plenty of money to give away to big billion dollar corporations in “incentives” to move to Georgia, but never can seem to help the people that already live here.

Is this idea really a way to help rural counties or just another way to push Atlanta’s problems on someone else?  Rural Georgia seems to be just about  anywhere but the Atlanta area.

Citizens, be informed and stay informed!  Only by being informed, can the citizens understand what is being done and talked about, and then press our officials to make good decisions for everyone in Jasper County.  That is our goal with the Taxdogs blog.

  1. Bad Idea says:

We don’t have enough money to keep the roads in decent shape. How will we pay for the increase in essential services and increase in classrooms that will be needed?

It’s terrible that one needs to “bribe” people to move to certain areas.

We have poor cell phone and internet service, how likely is it that people want to move here with or without incentives?

  2. Legislature Once Again Just Doesn't Get It says:

Property taxes are already outrageous in Jasper County. We were charged a impact fee of over a thousand dollars when we built a house here. To a degree, I originally had no problem with that, but after seeing how the board of commissioners wastes money on non-essential spending, I have evolved to believe we were screwed over with the impact fee.

We have a spending problem with those coming to the taxpayer trough, and commissioners and politicians all too willing to fill it without setting spending priorities. All property owners need tax relief.

  3. elitist mentality says:

this is clearly a scheme by created by the DNC to move their liberal base into the rural areas so they can win the electoral college vote next time around. the freeloaders still get welfare and section 8 housing, but their voting districts will be spread throughout the state.
this scheme also allows them to simultaneously get rid of the poor who are taking up valuable real estate in the metro area, and create habitat for the 50k techies Amazon wants within the Marta service area.

  4. Richard says:

when our legislators get elected, they go “brain-dead.”  Richard

  5. sick & tired says:

Watch the Atlanta news. Do we want these people down here? Look what they do up there. NO THANKS
