Rumors have been rampant since before Christmas that the “Wood Flooring Plant” (Thompson & Thwaite, LLC) has closed. Reliable sources have told us again this week that the plant is closed.
TWG submitted an open records request on Monday, 3/19/18, to David Dyer, DAJC Director, requesting any correspondence over the past 3 months concerning the wood flooring plant and asking if the note/bond payments were up to date. As of this evening, we have not gotten a response.
This project was a tremendous risk from the beginning because the project’s owner(s) had no capital in the game. It was the BOC, David Dyer, and the DAJC that pushed this project, and it was the BOC that voted to have the taxpayers of Jasper County back the $1.8Million of bonds. The BOC and DAJC also had several “character witnesses” attend the meeting to override the concerns voiced by some citizens they call the “negative naysayers” because they dared to question the validity of this project.
As predicted, it appears the taxpayers are on the hook for the payments. The business did not last 3 years.
We will keep you updated on this new debt the taxpayers may soon be responsible for. Until then, refresh your memory about what took place and how this boondoggle came about by reading the links below.
Citizens, be informed and stay informed! Only by being informed, can the citizens understand what is being done and talked about, and then press our officials to make good decisions for everyone in Jasper County. That is our goal with the Taxdogs blog.
