Rumors have been rampant since before Christmas that the “Wood Flooring Plant” (Thompson & Thwaite, LLC) has closed.  Reliable sources have told us again this week that the plant is closed.

TWG submitted an open records request on Monday, 3/19/18, to David Dyer, DAJC Director, requesting any correspondence over the past 3 months concerning the wood flooring plant and asking if the note/bond payments were up to date.  As of this evening, we have not gotten a response.

This project was a tremendous risk from the beginning because the project’s owner(s) had no capital in the game.  It was the BOC, David Dyer, and the DAJC that pushed this project, and it was the BOC that voted to have the taxpayers of Jasper County back the $1.8Million of bonds.  The BOC and DAJC also had several “character witnesses” attend the meeting to override the concerns voiced by some citizens they call the “negative naysayers” because they dared to question the validity of this project.

As predicted, it appears the taxpayers are on the hook for the payments.  The business did not last 3 years.

We will keep you updated on this new debt the taxpayers may soon be responsible for.  Until then, refresh your memory about what took place and how this boondoggle came about by reading the links below.

Citizens, be informed and stay informed!  Only by being informed, can the citizens understand what is being done and talked about, and then press our officials to make good decisions for everyone in Jasper County.  That is our goal with the Taxdogs blog.

Of the hundred of thousands of dollars the taxpayers of Jasper County have put into the pockets of Dyer Dyer and his gang of self-serving ilk, what have we the people of Jasper County received in return, besides a severe scalding ? Maybe our lapdog BOC would care to answer.

Look people. I’m sure you’ll all agree, enough is enough. We “ALL” need to do something about this county and city. I’m in the city and there is no doubt in my mind that we are being screwed, taken advantage of, ripped off. Period!!! I sitting in the city council meeting as I’m typing this message and oddly enough, I see two new faces sitting here with me. My first comment to the council is where are you all at when I brought this up in April (what are you going to do about getting the utility rates down? To competitive affordable rates?) the answer was we’re still looking into it BS. The city paid off a $200k+ Meag bill 2-3 months ago which was brought up in the city council meeting. They said then that it’s saving the city $7k to $9k a month. So I asked well where is that money going that does not have to be paid out to meag any longer. The mayor said it’s going back into the pile so to speak BS. I asked what can’t that money be put towards the electricity rates or gas rates? “We will look into that” BS. That’s money that I think should go back to the community, to bring down these outrageous rates we’re having to pay. Doug white told me three month ago, as an incentive to the community, they were thinking to give back these outrageous deposits that the city charged all of us, up front. So I brought that up tonight. The response was “we’re looking into it”, BS. I asked where is all of our money, your money, my money, his money and her money. These “high” deposits that we all had to put up just to have our electricity and gas turned on. Good credit, bad credit, it doesn’t matter. The city wants these high amounts because the rates are practically unaffordable and they know it. It’s just a way they can get that money from you when u can’t pay your bill. When I asked where is our money, is it being used, has it been spent already? Maybe on new plants around the square? Or used for annual bonuses? I could get a definite answer then they all looked at Lathaydra. Honestly, she said in the bank. Good response huh.

People. This has been going on for way too long. 8, 10, 12 years ago to be close enough. Back when Susan Holmes was Mayor. Please come by Peebles Antique Attic so we, as residents, citizens and business owners, can win back our town and make this community affordable. Where I could run my a/c or heat once in a while. Same with you all. We should be able to run our a/c everyday to stay cool and our heat everyday to stay warm. It’s our city and our town damnit. It’s time to get it back. We all need to be attending all theses pillbox meetings. Fighting for what’s ours people. Get off your asses and let’s win this war once and for all. Now is the time. Please come see me, Jeff at Peebles Antique Attic located on the square. 706-623-130

  3. Wallace says:

So did they use the $1.8 million to buy the land and also the equipment without putting in any of their own money? I’d love to get $1.8 million to start a business with no risk to me if it didn’t work out. I presume the County can take anything there that was bought with the $1.8 million.

  4. We've been had again says:

Now the DAJC (aka taxpayers) own the building and equipment along with the bond payments.

Not sure what there is to litigate. Can’t get blood from a turnip.

  5. James Roy Kelly says:

Wonder if he left any of the equipment? Somebody (David Dyer and the BOC) needs to go see. This was a stupid deal to begin with. Those responsible for this need to be replaced!

    • taxdogs says:

All the equipment was specialized equipment, ordered from Italy.

      • Where Is The Accountablity , BOC ? says:

Funny how the BOC is so quick to hand our hard won tax dollars over to shady actors, but accept no responsibility to follow up on how it was spent or misspent. Do we have a Representative government in Jasper County or not ? It certainly seems we don’t.
