 The Planning and Zoning Board will hold a public hearing on Thursday, April 19, 2018 beginning at 6:00 pm in the Commissioners Meeting Room on the ground floor of courthouse (Suite 16).  Applicant Melanie Neal has applied for a text amendment to the Jasper County Code of Ordinances to add a tournament lake to the use tableThe property is located at 1988 Hwy 212W.  Current zoning is Agricultural (A).

The “tournament lake” that is being requested, is really a small 2 to 3 acre pond shared with the next door neighbor, and has been operating as a “pay lake.”  P&Z issued them a business license for a “pay lake.”  (How business licenses work in Jasper County—you go in, fill out the application, pay your money, and you get a license.  No one knows what you will really be doing or if you are operating legally, and there does not seem to be any check up on the business afterwards.)

Even though this tournament lake has not been approved, the applicant has already purchased 21,000 pounds of carp and put them in this pond.

Surrounding neighbors did not know about the application or hearing, even though a sign was put at the site.  The white sign was put up right next to the white fence and no one could notice it unless they were looking for it.  It took us three (3) times going by at 25mph to finally see it, and that is only after searching for it diligently.  No one could possibly see the notification from the road or even know what it said.

Remember, this is a SHARED lake with a next door neighbor who is opposed to this proposal.  The owner of the property is Ashley Ray, not Melanie Neal.

There is no real “text amendment” that Ms. Neal has offered.  There is no minimum size listed for a “tournament lake” or what the hours of operation would be. 

Please attend this meeting and voice any concerns you may have. 



Citizens, be informed and stay informed!  Only by being informed, can the citizens understand what is being done and talked about, and then press our officials to make good decisions for everyone in Jasper County.  That is our goal with the Taxdogs blog.

    Just moved here and who are the whomps afraid of Mr. Sealy? Btw who is he to run this show! This county is rediculous letting these wannabe politicians do as they want! I wish I had never moved here. This County and City is a joke they are raping our pockets how will we fix this mess? We need to get new eyes on our projects here. Out with winning in with the knowledge to improve our City and County

    This is probably another business promoted by the chamber of commerce without regard for the people that live nearby. Business at any cost is their motto.
