Despite the P& Z Board voting 5-Ø to deny a “tournament lake”, because there is no definition of a tournament lake in the Jasper County code or table of uses, the BOC will have a public hearing on the request for a tournament lake on Hwy 212 W.
The request involves a shared lake with a neighbor who does NOT want this activity. The neighbor’s lake has already been infiltrated with carp and salt as the petitioner for the tournament lake gets everything ready, despite not having permission or the authority to have a tournament lake.
It was revealed at the P&Z hearing that the pond flows into Pope’s Branch/Creek which is one of the City of Monticello’s main sources of water. There are also other state requirements which the P&Z director has yet to provide proof of being met, despite requests for documents.

Plan to attend the BOC meeting, Monday, May 7th at 6:00PM. The hearing is the first thing on the agenda, so you will not be there “all night”.
Citizens, be informed and stay informed! Only by being informed, can the citizens understand what is being done and talked about, and then press our officials to make good decisions for everyone in Jasper County. That is our goal with the Taxdogs blog.
