If you are not expecting another property tax increase, you need to wake up! Property values in Jasper County continue to go up. TWG has been told about huge increases in property values, some 40% more than last year.
You have the right to appeal your property assessment for value, uniformity (not comparable to other similar properties), or taxability. You can write a letter, go in person, or use form PT-311A (click here) to appeal your property value.
If you do appeal, have your facts ready, and do not let anyone intimidate you in the process. You know your property better than anyone else, and it is your right to have an appeal hearing.
You have until this Friday, May 26, to appeal your property value. If you think your new values are too high, take the time and appeal them. If you are not sure how the process works or have any complaints about your experience, let us know. You can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or send us a PM on Facebook.
Over the past 5 years, not only have the values gone up, but the property taxes have gone up as well as the BOC and Board of Education continue to increase their spending and their budgets with many wants and few actual needs. It is hard to determine exactly what is in the budgets because most of the negotiation and discussion is behind closed doors.
Expect higher taxes again this year with this new round of value increases by the Board of Assessors and the lack of budget restraint by the BOC and Board of Education.
Citizens, be informed and stay informed! Only by being informed, can the citizens understand what is being done and talked about, and then press our officials to make good decisions for everyone in Jasper County. That is our goal with the Taxdogs blog.
