DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY & COUNTY ENTER INTO LEASE AFTER EXECUTIVE SESSION—WHY IS THIS A BIG SECRET?

August 8, 2018

Only by reading the July 2, 2018 minutes would you ever know that the Jasper County BOC and the DAJC have a lease agreement for a piece of land.  The lease term is one (1) year with a continuous extension of one (1) year.  The lease amount is $1,000 per year.

After reading through the seven (7) pages of the Lease Agreement, it is strange that neither the address nor the location is mentioned in the lease.  It is on Exhibit A, which was not provided with the open records request.  Why not?  Why is it a secret?

The lease agreement does say that the property cannot be sub-leased, but it does not say how or for what purpose the property will be used.

The location of the property to be leased is marked in red on this aerial shot.

This piece of property is across from the Recreation ball fields and just before you enter into the landfill gates.

Again, why is this such a big secret that it was never mentioned and done after the Executive Session, after a long meeting?  Why was this deal not reported in the local paper as part of the BOC meeting write-up?

“Examining public records should never require extraordinary legal or bureaucratic efforts. When it does, it’s usually a red flag.”  —Don Baldwin

“The liberties of a people never were, nor ever will be, secure, when the transactions of their rulers may be concealed from them.”–Patrick Henry

  1. Incompetent says:

Why would a lease agreement not state the address or location of said property?

    What lawyer prepared this agreement?

There are simple lease agreement templates available on the internet to download. This is not rocket science.

  2. The Trees Can't See The Forest says:

    Conservatives, they called themselves .

  3. The Dutyof Taxpayer Is Entertain US says:

For the mindless consumers of bread and circus nothing, not truth, justice nor transparent government is more important than their entertainment.

  4. Go cart racing? says:

It must be going to be for go-kart racing because that is what brings joy to Robb.

  5. Robert Leggett says:

I don’t believe that it was a secret. I’m not sure why peple did not know about the lease however I also don’t believe that the use of said property is intended to be kept secret. I’m sure if someone asks what the property will be used for they will be told.
I have reason to believe that this property will bring much joy and Happiness to many people in Jasper County!!!!
Our County Commissioners are not as bad or as sneaky as they are made out sometimes to be!!!!!

So, you knew about Robb? If no one knows about it, and it is not discussed in open, it is a secret. And all the documents were not provided when asked about it–the location was still kept secret. It was sneaky!

      • Rob b says:

I’m not privy to the details of this lease.
I have faith that our County Commissioners know what they are doing.
It they are being discreet about the details I’m sure they have their reasons.
